Missoula Curling Club

Dedicated Ice Facility

A new dedicated ice facility for the Missoula Curling Club will allow the Club to greatly expand youth programs and take advantage of the inclusive nature of curling, where curling is community.

The Missoula Curling Club is one of the largest arena curling clubs in USA Curling, and limited time at Missoula’s Glacier Ice Rink limits expansion of the sport in our community. A dedicated ice facility will allow the club to support both high school and college programs, a youth competitive curling program, seniors, wheelchair, and expand current leagues. A dedicated curling ice facility will also support community events, including USA Curling events, that will draw visitors and teams from around the country to Missoula.

Working with Board members, a project vision, functional building program, site needs analysis, and preliminary design work were completed to support conversations with Club members and the community to determine whether there is enough support to build a dedicated curling ice facility. With goals for cost-effective, efficient, and low long-term operating and maintenance costs, building design and finishes are designed for maximum impact using simple materials. Natural daylighting with translucent wall panels is proposed to minimize artificial daylighting needs and to create a bright, airy curling arena. A multi-purpose mezzanine space and generous warm room with bar support tournament spectator viewing and help support building the curling social community.
