North Hills Hearth

Settled into the rolling hills, this home is designed to connect the land – the grassy meadow, nearby forested draw, and mountains beyond.

With goals to build their ‘forever home’, design decisions were evaluated to support family life and entertainment . With primary living and gathering spaces oriented to the view, expansive glazing seamlessly connects interior spaces to outdoor rooms and the landscape. Private family spaces are nestled into the hillside and focus inward to provide a sense of privacy and enclosure.

With high sustainability and low-carbon goals at the forefront, all building components were scrutinized for alignment with project goals. Double-frame walls with densely-packed insulation, low-carbon materials, and a high-performing building envelope maximizing thermal mass and solar access were integrated to create a home both for its time and for this family’s ‘forever’.
