Spanish Peak

Updating a McMansion to create a cohesive design on a budget required simple design moves that minimized demolition while maximizing transformation impact.

Built in the late 1990’s, deferred maintenance, a funky layout, and poor construction detailing had taken its toll on this home. Located above public green space that insured commanding views of Missoula valley, our clients wanted to transform the home without starting over.

To transform the street presence, improve layout, and to capture the view, a new gable roof form cuts through the existing hip roof from front to back. The gable serves as a new covered porch to provide clarity of entry and improve presence on the street, and the gable carries through interior living spaces and opens to the view with drama and style. Main level living spaces flow out to a gracious deck that connects to the lower yard. Minor building additions with variation and appropriately-scaled exterior siding materials that articulate building scale complete the exterior transformation with timeless materials and details.
